In 2 years as a Senator, Obama authored 152 bills - Hillary: 20 in 6 years

Let's take a closer look at who's really qualified and or who's really working for the good of all of us in the Senate. Obama or Clinton.

Records of these two candidates should be scrutinized in order to make an informed decision.

Senator Clinton, who has served only one full term - 6yrs. - and another year campaigning, has managed to author and pass into law - 20 - twenty pieces of
legislation in her first six years.

These bills can be found on the website of the Library of Congress www.thomas.loc.gov, but to save you trouble, I'll post them here for you.

1. Establish the Kate Mullany National Historic Site.
2. Support the goals and ideals of Better Hearing and Speech Month.
3. Recognize the Ellis Island Medal of Honor.
4. Name courthouse after Thurgood Marshall.
5. Name courthouse after James L. Watson.
6. Name post office after Jonn A. O'Shea.
7. Designate Aug. 7, 2003, as National Purple Heart Recognition Day.
8. Support the goals and ideals of National Purple Heart Recognition Day.
9. Honor the life and legacy of Alexander Hamilton on the bicentennial of his
death.
10. Congratulate the Syracuse Univ. Orange Men's Lacrosse Team on winning the
championship.
11. Congratulate the Le Moyne College Dolphins Men's Lacrosse Team on winning
the championship.
12. Establish the 225th Anniversary of the American Revolution Commemorative
Program.
13. Name post office after Sergeant Riayan A. Tejeda.
14. Honor Shirley Chisholm for her service to the nation and express
condolences on her death.
15. Honor John J. Downing, Brian Fahey, and Harry Ford, firefighters who lost
their lives on duty. Only five of Clinton's bills are, more substantive.
16. Extend period of unemployment assistance to victims of 9/11.
17. Pay for city projects in response to 9/11 18. Assist landmine victims in
other countries.
19. Assist family caregivers in accessing affordable respite care.
20. Designate part of the National Forest System in Puerto Rico as protected
in the wilderness preservation system.

There you have it, the fact's straight from the Senate Record.

Now, I would post those of Obama's, but the list is too substantive, so I'll mainly categorize.

During the first - 8 - eight years of his elected service he sponsored over 820 bills. He introduced
233 regarding healthcare reform,
125 on poverty and public assistance,
112 crime fighting bills,
97 economic bills,
60 human rights and anti-discrimination bills,
21 ethics reform bills,
15 gun control,
6 veterans affairs and many others.

His first year in the U.S. Senate, he authored 152 bills and co-sponsored another 427. These included

1. Coburn-Obama Government Transparency Act of 2006 - became law,
2. Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-proliferation and Conventional Weapons Threat Reduction Act, - became law,
3. Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act, passed the Senate,
4. 2007 Government Ethics Bill, became law,
5. Protection Against Excessive Executive Compensation Bill, In committee, and many more.

In all, since entering the State/U.S. Senate, Senator Obama has written 890 bills and co-sponsored another 1096.

An impressive record, for someone who supposedly has no record according to some who would prefer that this comparison not be made public.

He's not just a talker.
He's a doer.

Racism and xenophobia. Ooh,

Racism and xenophobia. Ooh, how nice. You must be a charming young individual. If only we could meet in person. Yes, and then have children. You and I. Tiny little balls of hate to coddle and nuture, and turn into bigger shitbags than ourselves. I dream of that day, anonymous.

homeland???

His homeland is the United States, otherwise he would not be able to run for President.

He was being sarcastic about

He was being sarcastic about caring about the U.S., genius.

He never lived in the Congo.

He never lived in the Congo. His family is from Kenya.

And even so, isn't it good to have a president that cares for Africa? Or really, any other country.

It would be super-nice if he

It would be super-nice if he could muster up some caring about THIS country and its Constitution. I have yet to hear it in his speeches geared toward the seven year olds or read it in his writing which tends to champion strictly fascist ideals, but who cares, right? Barry for President!

Gosh, if only he had been a

Gosh, if only he had been a professor of constitutional law... oh wait...

To accuse Obama of laying

To accuse Obama of laying down fascist ideals is like saying Bush is being a liberal.

Mussolini said it best: fascism is better known as corporatism, and honestly, Bush's corporate welfare agenda is exactly that.

Obama cares

It's obvious you can't read or listen. Barak Obama IS A CONSTITUTIONAL LAWYER. And it's obvious you don't know the meaning of fascism. Bush/McCain believe that corporations have more significance than the ordinary citizen. They have demonstrated their fascist ideals.

OBAMA'S RELATIVES IN KENYA

Someone asked why Obama's relatives in Keyna (although he is a millionaire) have no indoor plumbing or running water in their home. The answer from the Obama camp was they (his relatives in Africa) didn't want indoor plumbing or running water, because they didn't want to be different from their neighbors.

Do you believe that?

badly written

Badly written piece. I how many did Hillary author, as opposed to get passed. Comparing what one person has authored with what another has passed is apples and oranges. I do agree that the allegations against Obama of being simply a talker are horseshit and I believe that Hillary would just end up being George W. in drag.

After reading your writing,

After reading your writing, i've determined you are not an authority on what qualifies as good writing.

He's not comparing authored

He's not comparing authored to passed, of course.

Hillary has simply written and pushed through much less legislation. Here's another assessment, from someone who doesn't buy into the Obama hype but did her research:

http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/2/20/201332/807/36/458633

Thanks for this.

Simple Research

Okay. It took me one entire hour to verify this. I checked all legislation on http:://thomas.loc.gov either sponsored or even cosponsored by Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and Dr. Ron Paul. (I did not bother to check McCain for the same reason I'm not voting for Frank Zappa). It turns out that althuogh it is likely that Hillary Clinton does indeed have more experience in the current political climate than Barack Obama, his ability to get things doing -by my measure as well- are a solid 20% in excess of hers.

I counted for the calendar years 2006 and 2007 all the bills either sponsored or cosponsored by each of them and compared to the number that made it into law (or, as amendments, into legislation). Note that if an amendment passed, I did not go on to perform the additional check if it became part of a law that passed, for any candidate.

Barack Obama's record turned out to be over 41% while Hillary Clinton was at 35% and Dr. Paul, 15%. See all the data and methodology here: http://lionslair.com/2008LegislativeComparison.html

Lies

1 - the link offered is a non-functioning link. Correctly it should be: http://thomas.loc.gov

2 - the facts are incorrect. For example:

a. If one goes to Thomas and goes to mid page and "browse bills by sponsor" you will get results of 113 for Obama and 150 for Clinton

b. There are numerous seemingly innocuous bills sponsored by Obama such as: Sen. Res. 133 "A resolution celebrating the life of Bishop Gilbert Earl Patterson;" or S. Res 268 "A resolution designating July 12, 2007, as "National Summer Learning Day;"

c. Similary, Clinton sponsored many a bill of worthiness: Sen 120 "A bill to establish a grant program for individuals still suffering health effects as a result of the September 11, 2001, attacks in New York City and at the Pentagon," or S.895 "A bill to amend titles XIX and XXI of the Social Security Act to ensure that every child in the United States has access to affordable, quality health insurance coverage, and for other purposes."

More of the SAME, now go back to sleep

Barack is black. Hillary is a woman. I know this because it was mentioned a few times on TV, the radio and in print (usually next to a picture of both candidates just in case I couldn't believe what I was reading). Other than that they are both Democrats and have roughly similar agendas. Which candidate will have a better shot at pushing through beauracratic bullshit, create effective alliances, and keep the masses entertained and reasonably reassured they are safe? Gotta say Barrack has the charisma. He also has the potential to do more, we don't know if he will or if he won't but he certainly has the potential. In the end if he ends up being an eloquent but empty windbag, so what? The country has withstood, and even prospered on some levels, under two guys who never practiced politics above the state level prior to being elected as president. Inexperienced? What experience did Gee Dub have coming into the White House? Christ, Bush can't string three words together without two pauses and a couple of "Uhhh...."s thrown in. Ultimately Corporate America is going to insure profits, keeping America "safe", so anybody that thinks that either Democratic candidate is going to make some enormous change is delusional. Let's all bitch and moan about abortion, stem cell research, amount of trans-fats in our donuts and other innocuous bullshit, and let the guys who pay us our pennies keep making the important decisions. Which candidate is going to be the most entertaining when passing on our marching orders? Clearly it is Barrack Obama. Unless Hillary can incorporate her message into some sort of hip-hop performance piece.

20 to 5

I only see 5 bills passed into law, and 20 for Clinton. It doesn't matter how many Bills get written, its how many bills are passed into law and how significant those bills are. And how many of those bills were passed with a Republican congress in power? I'd be interested in seeing how he really does when he is the minority and needs to get things done. Probably not very well. He might be able to get Republicans together when Dems are in the majority, but he can't do magic.

Either you are an ASS or are a CONNIVING LIAR

WHAT A PIECE OF HORSESHIT!!. Like someone pointed out, you are comparing what bills Hillary PASSED v what Obama AUTHORED. Nice try on the sping. Sad to see some people falling for it. Maybe that was your intention, you conniving dumbass.

Why is more better?

Maybe it's just me, but why is it better to pass more legislation? The whole of government is so inept and inefficient that I'd MUCH rather them do less than more.

Numbers

I am not an expert but is it odd that in 365 days of the year he authored 152 bills. That is 2.4 days per bill. Is that normal for a senator. How long were these bills? How important are these bills? What effects did they have?

"His first year in the U.S. Senate, he authored 152 bills and co-sponsored another 427."

check your math... 2.4 bills

check your math...

2.4 bills a day for 365 days would be closer to exactly 876 bills total for the year

152 bills / 365 days = 0.416 bills a day

You criticize his math, I criticize your literacy

He said 2.4 days per bill, not bills per day. So you are both mathematically correct, but only you are illiterate.

sowhat

let's vote for Hillary! I like people who do less shitty stuff like passing bills. wahaha

This article isn't true.

This article isn't true. Obama did not "author" 152 bills. I don't care for Clinton so do think I'm here supporting her. I have no idea where this figure of 152 came from. But to be truthful it's around 32. So this person that lied is not helping him in my book. I know...because I was there when he voted. I know him as a friend.

Gun Control?

There were 15 (!!!) gun control bills put forth in two years. That's great. That's remarkable. I heard of none of them. Presumably because the GOP death-loving flat-earthers defeated them all. I'm glad Obama voted for them. I wonder what Hillary voted on them or if she did.

And just for laughs, what does it mean that one is "not verified" as being anonymous. That's funny.

Go Obama powa!

Go Obama powa!

Look ahead people

Stop debating who the better candidate is, the really important thing is to make sure that whomever becomes the democratic candidate better be able to beat McCain and I'm not sure Obama can. If we're not careful, talk about another 'W', McCain will be the next Pres.

The CFR already ownes this election!

LOL
You all think this election Matters... WOW!
McCain, Hillary, and Obama are all part of the Council on Foreign Relations!
If you don't know who the CFR is then please DON'T VOTE!

They are from the same group that wants to render our country obsolete.
This is a matter of record.

Article is Misleading and Factually Incorrect

"Statistics: Hillary Clinton has sponsored 354 bills since Jan 22, 2001,
of which 307 haven't made it out of committee (Extremely Poor) and 2 were
successfully enacted (Average, relative to peers). Clinton has
co-sponsored 1723 bills during the same time period (Average, relative to
peers)."

"Statistics: Barack Obama has sponsored 129 bills since Jan 4, 2005, of
which 120 haven't made it out of committee (Poor) and 1 were successfully
enacted (Average, relative to peers). Obama has co-sponsored 545 bills
during the same time period (Average, relative to peers)."

Your facts are fishy...

So Hilary co-sponsored 1723 bills in 6 years,
McCain co-sponsored 873 bills in 11 years,
and both get ranked as "Average, relative to peers?"
How big is this "average" category?

Vote Obama

Re: "Your facts are fishy..."

Fortunately though they're not my facts. The numbers are a matter of public record.

"So Hilary co-sponsored 1723 bills in 6 years,
McCain co-sponsored 873 bills in 11 years,
and both get ranked as "Average, relative to peers?"
How big is this "average" category?"

Average is maintained as within one standard deviation from the mean; 1178 +/- 783.

But if you wish to make your own valuations on the numbers, feel free.

Just to comment on "Look

Just to comment on "Look ahead people" --
I think the problem lies with Hillary being able to beat McCain. McCain is PERCEIVED as a moderate by independents and even republicans, even though based on is record this obviously isn't true. However, Hillary is perceived as a divider, and a large issue in this campaign is partisanship, and the American public is generally sick of the typical partisanship that engulfs our current government. Barack is the epitome of non-partisanship (in the views of the public). In a matchup of McCain vs. Obama, Obama wins because he's seen as the answer to the partisan bickering. If it's McCain vs. Clinton, McCain will win because he's seen as a moderate and will get that huge republican/independent base, and since Clinton is seen as a divider, will lose.

RE: lol you're a misinformed loser

What do you have to say about your babydaddy Bawhack not being present for 187 votes? Please form an educated informational site based on FACTS. I urge you to look at onthevote.com, washingtonpost.com, as well as google.com RE: his voting tendencies and laws that were actually carried. I am in favor of Bawhack becoming president however after substantial research the FACTS are that he's favored only laws that aided his alliances in getting more money and taking advantage of poor minorites in chicago. DO THE RESEARCH i'm not making this up. He's intentionally closely alligned himself with the likes of Mayor Daley, Rezco, and a myriad of other slimy characters in an effort to make personal gains based on his titles. I was the biggest cheerleader until I READ what he's done and how he would rather vote "present" versus a yes or no. Bawhack needs to step it up and start thinking and answering questions before we all go to hell in a handbasket! :P

onthevote.com isn't a

onthevote.com isn't a website.

Also Murdoch owns the Post,

Also Murdoch owns the Post, wouldn't trust it to offer fair and balanced views of Barack's voting record.

the post offered the same

the post offered the same voting information as the gov's website it just organized it in a way where its easily searchable. you can look at present votes, what votes all the candidates missed, and what bills they sponsored etc more easily, without having to click around randomly and scroll through impossible lists etc. ontheissues.com is another credible site. these sites offer information thats factual[confirm it for urself] but its just easier to group the facts together. no matter how you try to manipulate the facts, bacock is just embarassingly immature and out for himself. he's just not deeper than his words.

What?

The Washington Post is owned by the Washington Post Company. It is unconnected with Murdoch or Newscorp, or any overtly biased corporation. If anything, the Post has a moderate political leaning, it has traditionally been fairly liberal (at least in reputation) but is becoming more and more conservative.

"What do you have to say

"What do you have to say about your babydaddy Bawhack not being present for 187 votes?"

It's the same reason all the candidates have had poor attendance lately. Running for president tends to take you far away from Washington.

honey bawack was missings

honey bawack was missings votes b4 the campaign trail was laid. he just didn't care about really making a difference. too busy playing shirtlless basketball i gues....

You're being misleading

Here is Obama's attendance record:

http://www.govtrack.us/congress/person.xpd?id=400629&tab=votes

As you can see, he missed a total of 11 votes during his first two years in the Senate while he has missed ~180 in the last year. In comparison Clinton has missed ~120 in the last year and Mccain ~230.

Every candidate starts missing votes

Obama didn't start missing votes until he started campaigning for president:
http://www.govtrack.us/congress/person.xpd?id=400629&tab=votes

The same thing happened with Clinton and McCain (twice, for him):
http://www.govtrack.us/congress/person.xpd?id=300022&tab=votes
http://www.govtrack.us/congress/person.xpd?id=300071&tab=votes

Smaller Government

I believe most of you are small minded/big government socialists. The goal should be minimal bills passed/smaller government= less of a big brother to watch you.

smaller government?

Geedub (a Republican in case anyone has forgotten) increased the size of government by nearly 21%.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/05/AR200610...
The cost of running the government has increased almost 20% in real dollars. Try the following link:
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/2/20/201332/807/36/458633
This is under a Republican president who supposedly believes in smaller government and less taxes and reducing the deficit. The time that democrats have been considered big govt/big spenders is over. That mantle has been passed onto the Republicans.

BAIPA

Even the strongest Democrats disagreed with his position on this topic.
With his opinion/position on BAIPA and his position on partial-birth, Senator Obama can't be elected or we will see some judge nominations that will give America the kind of change we don't want.
What kind of change? Not that kind!!!

What I as an angry white

What I as an angry white independent United States born and bred citizen of voting age would honestly like to know is," Who is Obama really? Why won't he properly salute Our Nation's Flag out in public; like every other true American is expected to do whenever the Stars and Bars pass before our eyes or is raised in honor before us? " The honorable(and I use this word loosely)Senator's published explaination just does not wash with me. Not in the least; when everyone else living within these United States should be taught by their elders, that its a show of profound honor and respect to Our Nation's selfless veterans to stand tall, silent with their right hand over their heart whenever Old Glory passes or is raised above our immediate view!

Salute the flag? Do it the old way!

Up until the 1940s people used to salute the flag by doing a gesture that looks remarkably like a Nazi salute:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bellamy_salute

I dare you to be a "true American" and salute the flag the old-fashioned way. Hand gestures mean so much!

Just Talk'in

One reason why I honestly believe the United States of America is in the shape that its in today is really simple; if you as a citizen will take time to look as I did recently at the root causes for our nation's continued free fall from 1950 until today! Ready for this America. Appropriate behavior towards Our Nation's Flag !

Article is written deceptively

I despise Hillary's sleazy attitude and plan to vote for Obama, but those defending this post fail to see that the tallies are not comparable. Read the TEXT, not just the numbers, and you'll see the poster is comparing the number of Clinton's bills that have PASSED to the number of bills Obama has SPONSORED.

Granted, Clinton's list is quite lame & doesn't help her claim of being tough & experienced, but the original poster was trying to make a very different (and false) point. His is such a transparent lie that even most averagely stupid American voters would be repulsed by it. Obama himself would never endorse such bullshit.

Original poster: Did the Clintons "plant" you here to try & make Obama supporters look ignorant & illiterate? That's far-fetched but it would explain your words. If you're serious about trying to help Obama with what you've said, you're a risk, not an asset.
