In March 1999 a 16-year-old mentally retarded girl, Lal Jamilla Mandokhel, was reportedly raped several times by a junior clerk of the local government department of agriculture in a hotel in Parachinar, North West Frontier Province. The girl's uncle filed a complaint about the incident with police who took the accused into protective custody but handed over the girl to her tribe, the Mazuzai in the Kurram Agency. A jirga of Pathan tribesmen decided that she had brought shame to her tribe and that the honour could only be restored by her death. She was shot dead in front of a tribal gathering.

In November 1997 Mussarrat Bibi, a mother of three children, pregnant and married for 11 years, was beaten to death by frenzied villagers in Chehel Khurd near Qilla Deedar Singh in Sheikupura district after rumours of her immoral behaviour spread. Inquiries revealed that the real reason for her death was that she had refused to work for the local landlords without payment. Two people were reported to have been detained briefly.

Mrs Riaz, whose father married an English woman after becoming one of the first Asian men to emigrate to the area in the 1960s, was sent back to Pakistan for 15 years after completing primary school, but she returned in the early 1990s with Mr Riaz, with whom she had an arranged marriage. The eldest daughter, Sayrah, was a "second mother" to her sisters, according to the family, and had a passion for fashion design; Sophia, 13, loved rap music and wanted to be an MC, while Alicia was the closest to her father. She embraced Asian culture the most and was a regular at the mosque....Early on 1 November last year, Mr Riaz decided the pressures were too much. As his wife and daughters slept in three upstairs bedrooms, he threw petrol over them and trailed more around the house, then lit three fires.

It amazes me how many Christians have never read Corinthians, probably the most theologically significant Books in the Bible. The Veil was part of christianity, in the bible, hundreds of years before Muhammed was born. As recently as a few decades ago, peasant women in the old Catholic countries wore veils. Hell, you still see elderly christian women wearing veils here and there in some parts of Europe.

Corinthians has some other interesting things to say about Women as well, if you care to crack a book before ranting on the internet.

Women are weaker and dumber than men. What is all of this argument about???

Islam only promotes modesty of both men and women by asking women to cover their body and men to lower their gaze. Islam promotes lawful marriage unlike in west where more than half of the children are bastards. As far as honor killing, it has little to do with religion and more to do with culture. Women have been subjugated and oppressed by all three Abrahamic religion. This is not at all surprisingly. Christianity is plagiarism of Judaism and Islam is a further plagiarism of them both. The Torah clearly establishes second-class citizenship for women. Every dispute, even those relating to pregnancy, are handled through the male perspective. If a woman is hit and she miscarries, it is up to the husband to determine the necessary recompense. In the New Testament we have S/Paul, a raging misogynist who believes women shouldn't be allowed to talk in church. If they have questions, they're supposed to wait and ask their husbands when they get home. I have not read the Koran so I cannot comment, but the conditions in Muslim countries speaks plainly. Women have been oppressed for most of our history. Why? Because we are primates and among primates it is the males the exert their dominance (because they are stronger). And yet, as John Stuart Mill predicted 150 years ago, the emancipation and empowerment of women has been incredible boon to our society. The practical and utilitarian benefits are clear, demonstrable, and vast. And the only thus-far proven solution to poverty is the empowerment of women. And if persons of questionable historicity (i.e. Moses, Jesus, Mohammad) disagree, they can go to hell.

So, who is worse, the Muslims or the American "conservative" Christians? I am an American, but I think the American right wing Christians are far worse. At least the Iranians keep to themselves and their own culture, the "Christian Conservatives" (like bush) invade and enable the invasions and destruction of Islam and other cultures! bush even stated that the invasion of Iraq was a CRUSADE! bush and his ilk intentionally calculated that using the term CRUSADE would inflame the Islamic world, and lo and behold it DID, and kept the war in Iraq rolling, enabling the defense contractors and their cronies like halibuton and cheney to illegally and immorally make (and steal) literally TONS of money. The Christian conservatives are largely responsible for the Iraq war, including the ONE MILLION DEATHS in Iraq (and 4,000 plus American soldiers) and keeping the hatred simmering in the mideast, along with the hard line Zionists whom they bow to, and allow to continually operate in a very powerful lobby in Washington D.C. Not only that, the Iranians and Muslims in general are not hypocrites; they are merely living their religion and trying to survive and believe in what they say and do, even if it is not always right. The Christian "conservatives" are all about money, NOT religion. They use religion as a FRONT. They go to church once a week for an hour (while Muslims pray 5 TIMES a DAY) to expand their "sphere of influence" rather than to worship. They kill in the name of Christ, when Christ said not to kill, and to in fact, "turn the other cheek". They also have a CHOICE to be and do anything they want, whereas the people in Iran DO NOT and are REQUIRED by the government to follow Islamic dogma. Now, I ask you, WHO IS WORSE? The answer is obvious, unless that is, you are a Christian "conservative".
